  22.       │      BBS HISTORY:  A St Petersburg operator claims his          │
  23.       │      system was "ONLINE" in '79.  No doubt, by 1980 there       │
  24.       │      were a few systems working.  Mostly on Tandy's Model       │
  25.       │      One Computer, they were mono, crude and awkward to         │
  26.       │      use.  First run on cassette storage tapes, then on         │
  27.       │      floppies and now hard drives, the systems have added       │
  28.       │      much user-friendliness.  Around 1983, IBM's PC began       │
  29.       │      to impact the BBS community with large shareware bases.    │
  30.       │      Color, better programs, networks and CD ROMs have          │
  31.       │      raised the appeal of BBSing to many more users.  Today     │
  32.       │      there are over 100 systems operating in the Tampa Bay      │
  33.       │      Area.                                                      │
